Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection
The purpose of an epidural steroid injection (ESI) is to reduce inflammation, tingling, and numbness, and as a result alleviate pain. For this safe and effective non-surgical treatment, an American Spine physician will inject a steroid medication into the epidural space of the cervical spine.
Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injection
One of the best minimally invasive treatments for back pain is a lumbar epidural steroid injection. For the procedure, a local anesthetic is used to numb the injection site. Using fluoroscopic guidance, a American Spine physician inserts a thin needle into the vertebrae of the epidural spine. A dye is injected that allows the physician to confirm the correct location of the needle.
Lumbar Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection
A lumbar transforaminal epidural steroid injection is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to help relieve chronic pain.
This injection consisting of a quick-acting anesthetic and a long-term, pain-relieving steroid is used to relieve pain in the low back and pain that originates in the low back but radiates into the buttocks and legs. This type of pain may be due to conditions including sciatica and degenerative disc disease.
Medial Branch Block
A medial branch block is used as a diagnostic procedure to determine if the cause of a patient’s pain is due to the bony joints of the spine, known as facet joints.Using a fluoroscope (x-ray), the pain doctor will determine the location of the suspected painful facet joint. Once this has been confirmed, an anesthetic medication will be injected around the medial branch nerves, which are associated with the signals to and from the facet joints. This anesthetic temporarily blocks these signals and numbs the responses of these nerves.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
Using the body's own elements of natural regeneration certainly has an advantage in healing an injury, which is exactly the mechanism used when performing platelet rich plasma (prp) injections. This procedure has created quite some attention in recent years as rumors have emerged of professional athletes like kobe bryant and tiger woods using it to heal quickly and get back in the game. At american spine & american spine, it is used to treat sprains, strains, tendon/muscle/ ligament injuries, and now many other injuries of the body
A discography is a diagnostic procedure that allows a physician to locate a patient's source of pain. For the procedure, a contrast dye is injected into the center of a spinal disc to determine where the pain is coming from. At American Spine, our physicians follow precautionary procedures for every surgery to reduce the risk of infection and complications.
Lumbar Radiofrequency Neurotomy
A lumbar Radiofrequency Neurotomy helps to eliminate pain to the spine
by disrupting pain signals from the medial branch nerves. Using a local Anesthetic and an X-Ray or fluoroscope, a cannula
(a needle-like tube) is inserted near the affected medial branch nerves.
The pain doctor insteps a radio frequency electrode through the cannula.
Once it is confirmed hthat the electrode is positioned correctly, the electrode is headed and cauterizes the nerve.
