YESS Selective Endoscopic Discectomy™

The YESS Selective Endoscopic Discectomy is a minimally invasive treatment utilizing a specific set of tools to remove any degenerated portions of the disc, leaving most of it intact, which results in leaving the spine remaining stable.

This procedure treats pain that is due to herniated disc material placing pressure on the nerve roots of the spine.

The doctor will use a fluoroscope (x-ray) to see the area where they will be working. A guide wire will be inserted at the confirmed damaged disc, and a tube with two holes will be passed over the guide wire to dilate the area. A working sleeve is then placed over the tube and wire, and those instruments are removed.

An endoscope, which is a small camera with a surgical light will be inserted through the sleeve, which will then enable the doctor to see the structure of the spine, disc, and epidural space on a screen. The degenerative and herniated portions of the disc are removed, preserving the other areas of the disc that are not causing pain. The disc wall is then treated with a laser and radiofrequency probe and nerves are examined to determine that the procedure was a success.

The surgical tools are removed, the area is bandaged, and the patient is able to return home after a short recovery.
