Understanding Scoliosis and Scoliosis Treatment
When it comes to the spine, the back naturally has a curve to it. It curves outward from the neck and shoulders and then inward to the lower spine and back out again with the tail. However, from top to bottom, the spine in normal form is straight from top to bottom. Unfortunately, lots of situations during childhood, growth and even because of injury, can trigger a twisting or shift of the spine’s position. As this occurs, the spine can bend to one side or the other. Scoliosis is oftentimes the diagnosis. We at American Spine: Spine Injury Accident Leaders serving Cerritos, CA, Corona, CA, San Diego, CA, Northridge, CA, Orange, CA, San Bernardino, CA, San Jacinto, CA, Santa Ana, CA, Upland, CA, Hesperia, CA, San Gabriel, CA, San Jose, CA, Laguna Hills, CA, know a lot about scoliosis and scoliosis treatment.
Causes and Conditions
Scoliosis during childhood is often associated with either genetic issues, poor development or improper posture over a long period of time. No surprise, pediatric care includes spinal exams on a regular basis to identify such issues early. In adults, scoliosis can be triggered by posture, age, accidents and injuries, and even post-surgery complications. The most common tends to be loss of bone density and deterioration of the spine with age.
Treatment and Help
Where Scoliosis is mild, it can be changed and reversed with treatment, additional support such as back braces, and guided, specific exercise. This helps the body not only recover from the damage but heal and repair itself. Where the scoliosis is moderate, however, far more committed medical attention is needed. In these cases, applied medical attention is needed as the curvature could be as much as 45 degrees. In the most serious cases, however, surgical attention can be necessary. Ideally, a doctor’s approach focuses on helping the body repair itself first. Surgical correction is reserved for the worst of case where the body simply can’t do the job, even with exercise, support and external treatment.
